Hen & Duck Houses

Pamper your hens with our, rather special, hand made Hen Houses.

With our experience of our own flock of very spoilt hens we have designed our hen houses to be as practical as possible - easy enough for young children to clean out and collect the eggs and gorgeous to look at.

Solidly built using quality pressure treated softwood timber throughout and treated with 2 coats of Sadolin Superdec. Any colour combination undertaken - the choice is yours. Our most popular colourway is the Jungle Green and Cream as pictured in our gallery.

Each Hen House has a detachable ladder and sliding 'front' door. The front panel of the house is hinged to one side and opens completely, with no internal 'lip', for easy bedding change. The rear of the houses are hinged at the bottom to enable the panel to open fully for easy egg collection. There are also two sliding ventilation openings to each side. Each Hen House has a high pitched wooden roof for generous roosting space. The perch runs the width of the house and is situated up in the eaves. The 4ft house has four nesting boxes and the 3ft house has two. Our Call Duck House can also be adapted to accommodate 2 small hens, ideal for the small or suburban garden.

We recommend our 4ft House for a maximum of 10 hens and the 3ft for a maximum of 6, although this obviously depends on the size of breed. Please contact us if you would like help on choosing your breed of hen and we will be delighted to recommend local suppliers.

Our Duck Houses are built in the same style as our Hen Houses. As Ducks don't nest in the same way as Hens they don't have nesting boxes inside or perches. The ladders are also extended for easier access to the house. We also make floating Duck Houses and smaller houses for Call ducks - please contact us for further information.

Please note that as a natural product wood may shrink and expand in changes of weather. Our painted buildings may require repainting or retouching within the first 12 months. Please call us if you have any concerns.

Bedding materials vary. We use a deep bed of straw for our hens and ducks which works very well. However, as the houses are entirely constructed of timber some materials - especially sawdust and shredded paper - can make the floor very damp depending on the depth of bed. If you are concerned we can supply a removable liner for your hen house which will keep the base dry. They cost £20 + postage and packing.

Amish wheel Our wheels are hand made in the USA by the Amish, 38cm in diameter and built traditionally with steel rims. These wheels are extremely durable and heavy and are stained with Sadolin woodstain.

If you move your Hen House often we do recommend that you order a House with wheels. As all our buildings are sturdily made they are all extremely heavy.

4ft Hen House = 1.3m wide, 1.25m depth and 1.8m to the highest point. Pressure treated timber used throughout. 50mm x 50mm framework.
3ft Hen House = 1m wide, 0.9m depth and 1.3m to the highest point. Pressure treated timber used throughout. 50mm x 45mm framework.
